The metrical text of the Summula is not reproduced continuously, but only in the form of brief verse lemmata; each quoted verse opening introduces the commentary on several consecutive verses.

The commentary addresses various specific questions of canon law: the immoral conduct of clerics, the prohibition against disclosing a theft confessed in confession, and the obligation to return goods that have come into the possession of others as a result of shipwreck or natural disaster. In some passages, it closely corresponds to the commentary printed in Heinrich Quentell’s Cologne edition of 1495 (GW 213), while in others it differs substantially or even entirely.
