Summary
Preface to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle (G text), with the West-Saxon genealogy from Cerdic (494) to Alfred (899). Cotton Otho B xi, fols 1–47 and Cotton Otho B x, fols 55, 58, 62 (damaged by fire), contain the remaining portion of the G text, dated 950–1025. It is a copy of the earliest version, or A text, the Parker Chronicle (Cambridge, Corpus Christi College MS 173), though some of the dates differ. Incipit: 'Þy geare pe waes agan fram cristes acennednesse', explicit, 'on wealum geeodon'. Decoration: Large initial 'Þ' in brown at the beginning of the preface.
