General Remarks
Two detached leaves from a Missal. Contents include portions of the Mass Ordinary and seasonal Prefaces for Epiphany, Lent, Marian feasts, and Apostles. Fol. 1r is text only; remaining sides combine text and music. Margins are heavily trimmed, cutting into the staves and text. A French marginal note reads: “Extrait d’un m.s. du eine siecle … il faut verifi[er] … on notait deja ainsi…”
Book Decoration and Musical Notation
Description
Decoration limited to rubrication and simple red initials marking the beginnings of chants or sections.
Hufnagel neumes written on red five-line staves. Both “c” and “f” clefs are used, though never on the same stave.
