General Information

Title Bede, Homeliarium evangelii libri ii
Shelfmarks F/35
Material Parchment
Date of Origin 13th century
Script, Hands

Written by a single hand in an early form of Gothic textualis, still quite reminiscent of Protogothic minuscule, from the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century. Notable angularity is seen in the back and bow of a (its head is also rather angular), as well as in d, e and the lozenge-like form of o. 2-shaped r is regularly used after o, whereas the instances of biting show a rather light contact between the different letterforms.

Numerous abbreviations are used. Among them, the -orum abbreviation is produced with a separate, oblique stroke across the tail of round r. At least, three perforations per ruled line are visible on the outer margin, whereas single perforations are also visible on the top corners and the inner margin.

A number of interlinear annotations are seen on ll. 9 and 15vb, probably by the main hand.

Rubricated title in red at the beginning of the new homily (l. 1vb). 4-line decorated initial D in green with red foliate decorations inside the bowl. Red ink was also used as filling in the capital letters at the beginning of a new sentence and to add question marks and other punctuation marks. Finally, faded annotations in red ink are found on both the inner and outer margins of the recto: “lectio VIIa”(?) and “lectio VIIIa”.
