Reconstruction Summary

Two letters, evidently from a collection of letters. On recto and first 17 lines of v.a, part of a letter to an unspecificed "princeps" defending a work the letter writer has written; this letter mentions an Archbishop W., possibly Wilchar of Sens (fl. ca. 765-778) or Wolfhar of Rheims (d. 816). Following this letter, beginning of another letter to a "princeps" containing advice in spiritual and practical affairs from an ecclesiastical writer. See Lorenz Weinrich's unpublished article, on file in UC SCRC, for debate on identities of letter writer, possibly Alcuin of York, Paulinus of Aquilaea, Hrabanus Maurus, or Dungal. 1 parchment leaf. Western Europe (Germany?), 10th century. Latin, Caroline minuscule. 256 x 161 mm. Rubric and first line of letter on verso in red. Ruled and lined on one side in lead; two columns of 24 lines. Written area 172 x 116 mm; each column 54 mm in width. Used in binding. No annotations.
