Provenance: The leaf was acquired from the Folio Society for the Alfred and Isabel Reed Collection at the Dunedin Public Library through the bequest of Alfred H. Reed (1875–1975). Inscription in pencil on verso 'MS. 1009 £6' in bottom margin.
The parent manuscript which comprised 115 leaves was sold by Sotheby’s (lot 137) on 11 December 1961. Leaves were offered for sale by the Folio Society in five Collector's Corner catalogues issued between 1962 and 1963.
Text: The text opens with a rubric introducing the Seven Penitential Psalms (uii psalmi penitentiales et deuoti), together with the opening of antiphon, Ne reminiscaris. The opening verse of Psalm 6:1 is followed by a portion of Psalm 31:1–5.
The rubric employs the uncommon formulation "uii psalmi penitentiales et deuoti", the addition of "deuoti" [devotional] to the standard title "septem psalmi penitentiales" perhaps intending to emphasise that praying these psalms is a personal devotion.
Script and decoration: One decorated initial (4-lines) in pink, the negative space burnished in gold and decorated with ivy tendrils, on ground painted blue with white ornamentation begins Psalm 6. Foliate bars extend from the spurs forming a frame around the text. The foliate bar in the right margin terminates to a figure of a small dragon. Flourished initial (2-lines) in blue ink with red penwork begins Psalm 31. Versals (1-line) alternate in gold with black penwork and blue with red penwork.
