Calender for the month of June from the St. Alexis Hours, a fifteenth-century Book of Hours. Full border of acanthus and rinceaux in gold and color with birds. Roundel miniature in outer central margin of recto and verso. Recto roundel depicts a man in a red tunic and wearing a blue hat using a tool to mow a field, representing the Labor of the Month for June (mowing). Verso roundel depicts a brown lobster with the backdrop of a field, representing the zodiac (Cancer).
