The project conducts research and publication of until-now unknown medieval music fragments from Württemberg monasteries, which fragments are currently in the holdings of the Hauptstaatsarchiv Stuttgart (and, in addition, in the Staatsarchiv Ludwigsburg and the Württembergische Landesbibliothek Stuttgart). Roughly 2,000 fragments will be made available through in-depth research, cataloguing and digitalization. Open access will be provided via the web platform Fragmentarium and the web-portal of the Hauptstaatsarchiv Stuttgart. A printed catalogue will present the catalogue entries as well as photographs of selected fragments. The first phase of the project was set for 36 months (2017-2020) and will now continue for two years (2020-2022). The project will provide new insights into the (until now) only partially known or completely unknown musical medieval culture of monasteries in Württemberg prior to the destruction of many manuscripts during the implementation of the Reformation in Württemberg (1537).
