    • Remarks

Fol. [2]r-v has Middle Dutch instructions related to the corresponding Psalms. The instruction on fol. [2]r instructs that someone had to read Psalm 69 before an altar ('Item die wil doen een groete saken, hi [...]ghe over s[...] bineden voerden outare. Ende lese vijfwerven Deus in adiutorium meum intende [i.e. Psalm 69] Item de here sal daer [...] volbringhe [...]')

The instruction on fol. [2]v refers to Psalm 70 ('In te domine speravi...'), which was to start on the following page. One had to recite this particular psalm to avoid posession by the Devil ('Item die in hem ghevoelt die macht vanden duvel of hi in een mensche come wille, hi lese In te domine speravi [i.e. Psalm 70]. Hij en sal geen macht over hem hebben').

Remarks

The fragment was used as a cover for a register containing the rents owed to a sheath makers' guild, according to a later-added note on fol. [1]r ('Schêemakers-renten').
