Book Decoration and Musical Notation

    Frame ruled in drypoint. 2-line decorated, illuminated psalm initial, on rose and blue ground patterned in white. Alternating red and blue secondary initials throughout. Line fillers in red and blue stylized lines.

    Origin

    Burgundy between the late 1440s and the late 1460s due to lack of decoration. Cf. Reynolds, 9. "A shift in taste made it acceptable to omit decorated borders altogether." See Bibliography.
