History

Origin

The watermarks are incomplete, which complicates their identification. On fol. 3 we see the upper part of a watermark, with a star between two horns, possibly the upper part of an ox head. On fol. 4 is an ox head. This watermark type has many variants, and the data are too limited for further identification. The last watermark (fol. 7) is a coat of arms corresponding to one of the numbers 1044-1047 from Briquet and Stevenson, and can be dated betwee 1465 and 1483. The paper originates from Troyes and has been found in North France, Flanders, the Netherlands and Germany (cf. Briquet - Stevenson (1968: I, 79-87).

Provenance

The fragment was bequested in 1962 by H. de Vocht. It has an ownership stamp of the KUL in blue ink on each leaf.
