More about the Condition

The leaves once appeared consecutively in their parent manuscript, the fragment refered to here as 1 before 2.

-

The original sewing stations are visible.

-

A running title, 'liber nonus', was added at the top of 1r by a 16th-century humanistic hand, indicating its continued use in this period.

Current Condition

Extent 2 leaves
Dimensions 227 x 373 mm
More about the Current Condition

The two leaves were joined together and used as a cover or wrapper for the host volume, whose title can just be discerned on the section of the leaf covering the spine on 1r and 2v. The two sets of new sewing stations, and the turn-ins once glued to the binding are also visible.

-

As indicated by the trace of the host volume's title, and the level of fading of the text, 1r and 2v faced outwards, rubbing against other books in the library. In places the degree of wear renders the text unreadable.

-

In constrast, 1v and 2r -- whose text is slightly better preserved -- show an offset from a later printed leaf with a two-column layout which must have faced the leaving, indicating attitional manuscript material was included in the host volume's binding. Although the offset is not clear enought to identify the specific text, the subject appears to be canon law.

-

The fragments are now separated from their host volume.
