Dom. 4 Quadragesimae (4th Sunday of Lent)

Description completed as part of coursework for an undergraduate-level manuscript studies class with Dr. Adrienne Williams Boyarin (University of Victoria), December 2022.
General Information
A strip of parchment cut from a Breviary leaf, with two chants marked by staffless neumes, in situ (folded crosswise and used to support the leather tie on a limp parchment binding). Visible chant and reading indicate material for 4th Sunday in Lent.
Current Condition
A strip of parchment folded and used to support a cord strap attached to front cover of host volume. Minor ink loss from rubbing against cover. Text only partially visible due to in situ status.
Book Decoration and Musical Notation
Initials in red, with some red splashing in minor initials.
Staffless neumes visible for two chants. Only identifiable chant is Dominus deus Hebraeorum misit me (CANTUS ID 007708a). The other is substantially hidden in binding flap.

Visible text indicates chants and readings for 4th Sunday in Lent. Chant Dominus deus Hebraeorum misit me (CANTUS ID 007708a) with staffless neumes partially legible, in addition to St Augustine's In Joannis Evang. Tractate XLIV (inc. Et preteriens etc. De homine quem Dominus illuminavit qui cecaus natus fute prolixa lectio recitata est...), also indicative of 4th week of Lent in the Roman liturgy (see Cabrol, Les Origines liturgiques, p. 283-84).
