Remarks

Both leaves were used as pastedowns in a register of the assizes of beer in the city of Antwerp kept between 1 August 1561 and 31 October of the same year ('Assijs boeck vande binnen bier assijse beginnende den eersten dach Augustus anno 1561 ende eindende het letste quartier den leesten dach october daer nae volgende').

This particular register was kept by controller Johannes Maechs. This can be attested by the probatio pennae on fol. [4]. This leaf contains several vertically-written annotations of a later date. Fol. [4]r contains twice the inscription 'Maria' in a northern textualis (the text on the front cover of the host volume is written in a similar hand), while fol. [4]v contains 'Jhesus maria', 'jhesus' and 'Joos maechs Contrerolleur' ('Johannes Maechs, overseer').

A modern paper slip with the inscription '1561-2' is attached to the leaves with a string, referring to this origin.
