    History

    Origin

The original manuscript was maculated in Slovakia, and is probably of local origin.

Update 2023: After the initial publication of the fragment, Mr Eduard Lazorík, PhD student at the Instite of Musicology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, wrote to let me know that four further fragments from the same manuscript were identified in Slovakian collections (e.mail from 21 Sept. 2021): Martin, SNK (Slovak National Library), Inc B 7; Kežmarok, Lyceum library, 1189; Kežmarok, Lyceum library, 22776; Martin, LA SNK (Archives of Literature, Slovak National Library), J 2014; Rožňava, Library of diocese, BUR XVIII/ Ep – s. 7, p. č. 2683. Moreover, the last of these items is a book printed in the same place and in the same year as BAR F. 45047, the host book of the present format (Rožňava, Library of diocese, BUR XVIII/ Ep – s. 7, p. č. 2683: Epitome Vitae, & Miraculorum Divi Antonii Paduani... Košice: typis Academicis Societatis Jesu, 1756). Thus, the Jesuit college of Košice may be the place where the original manuscript was maculated.

    Provenance

Jesuit college of Košice, post 1756, see above.
