Book Decoration and Musical Notation

Description

One 7-line initial, in red and blue, with red foliate design created in reserve; penwork extensions. A second multi-line initial in red, with penwork extensions. Running headlines supplied in alternating red and blue.

History

Origin

Although this printed in Mainz by Johannes Fust and Peter Schoeffer, Eberhard Koenig persuasively argues in the essay accompanying this leaf that the decoration was supplied in England.
Remarks

This leaf was part of a imperfect copy broken up by Bruce Ferrini to produce his 1993 leaf book The 1462 Furst & Schoeffer Bible. This copy is identified as Copy G.
