General Information
Twelfth-century protogothic hand (probably early) in which the letterforms are rather high and narrow. This is particularly noticeable in the shapes of a, with a small angular bowl and whose back is leaning to the left, and o, which has a slightly angular, vertical lozenge shape. Minims are reasonably tall, but ascenders and descenders are generally short, with the exception of g, whose tail is closed by an oblique hairline. Lateral compression is noticeable, although plenty round strokes are still used, for instance in the shaft of t. Despite the traces of lateral compression and angularity, no biting is observed, which suggests an earlier date in the twelfth century. Two forms of d used, as well as two forms of s, though the round shape is much less frequently found, always at word’s end.
Chapter initials in green, red (dark and bright) and blue are between 2 to 4 lines high, occasionally in the margin. Rubrics for each section are in bright red.
