Original Condition
Current Condition
Oud Archief stad Oudenaarde, nr. 877/H/9 (lower pastedowns) and Perkamenten nr. 56 c, fragm. 1 are bifolia, the other fragments are loose leaves.
Oud Archief stad Oudenaarde, nr. 877/H/9 (lower pastedowns) is still kept as an in situ pastedown; it is therefore not possible to read its backside. The other fragments were ejected from their respective host volume, with five different leaves all bound together in Handschriften en Zeldzame Drukken, nr. 20-4. These five leaves were bound without regard for the original order, leading to the fragments being put in a different order than they originally were. Some of the leaves in this binding were even bound in a reverse direction (verso side up inside of the recto side).
Oud Archief stad Oudenaarde, nr. 877/H/9 (lower pastedown) and fol. [2] of Perkamenten nr. 56 c, fragm. 1 both contain later-added leather attachments. Fol. [2] of this fragment has its outer margin trimmed away, while smaller holes were cut in fol. [1] of this fragment.
Book Decoration and Musical Notation
Pen-flourished initials, alternately in red and blue ink, sometimes with marginal extensions and ornamental elements. J-staff borders in red and blue ink. Line fillers in red and blue ink. Black initials with black figurative and ornamental penwork.
