General Remarks
This unusually rare leaf with diminutive Greek script is accompanied by interlinear Greek neumes in red and black above the text. This system of music writing is of uncertain origin but is believed to be an invention of the Byzantine Greeks. There are Byzantine marginal initials in red. All of these elements are combined into a fine sensitive ensemble. Reference: Music of the Middle Ages, Reese; pp. 75-91 and Musik der Neuen Griechen, Kiesewetter,; Table III.
