Content

  • Content Item
    • Persons Petrus Comestor
    • Text Language Latin
    • Title Petrus Comestor, Historia Scholastica
    • Content Description

Passage from Petrus Comestor's Historia Scholastica paraphrasing portions of chapters VIII and IX of the Book of Judges, particularly referring to Abimelech and Gedeon

    • Bib BS89.B46-Fragment 1 side 1
    • Glosses and Additions Written in pencil on fragment 1 side 2 is: “From the binding of MM5.17 Biblia Latina Lugd. 1546”. Looks like it could be James Maitland Anderson’s annotation. That would fit with saying the binding was removed from MM.5.17 as Bushnell introduced LCC and the Bib prefix after JMA’s time. JMA was Librarian 1881-1924 (and Keeper of Muniments until his death in 1927).
    • Edition Historia scholastica (Petrus Comestor), J. P. Migne; https://www.mlat.uzh.ch/browser?path=11575&text=11575
    • Remarks

Two older St Andrews classmarks are written in ink the margin of the verso:

      • N1.16 United College cat. (1782)
      • MM5.17 University Library cat. (1826)

Presence of a squiggle from James Moffatt in an oblique angle above a Latin inscription. The Latin seems to read:

      minus . eglentire . et est genus herbe . p[ri]us molle et post conuertit[ur] [  ]pinam . sicut p[ri]us delectant p[ ] et post pungent[us]
