      The reading order of the fragmentary Menaion is the following: f. 4ra - 1va - 4rb - 1vb

1va (Matins, September 14), the column starts with: (γ)ενησόμενα, βλέπων Ἰ(σρα)ήλ, τῆς βασιλεί(ας) [...] and ends with: Θ(εο)ῦ Λόγου σῶμα | ἀντιτορήσασαν.

1vb (Matins, September 14), the column starts with: ὡς γὰρ τῇ πλάνῃ ἄγαν ἀκρατῶς [...] and arrives at: Σ(ταυ)ρ(ό)ς | ἀγγέλων ἡ δόξα, καὶ τῶν δαιμόνων τὸ τραύμα

After that, we encounter the following -published, but not included in the formal Matins for September 14-, diplomatically transcribed, Exapostilarion (troparion) : (T)αῖς φεγγοβόλοις λάμψεσιν· ὁ σ(ταυ)ρ(ό)ς τοῦ κ(υρίο)υ· εἰς | τὴν αὐτοῦ ἀνύψωσιν· πάντας ἔρωτι θείῳ· | προκείμενος προσκαλείται· δεῦτε τοῦτο(ν) | ἅπαντες· χαρᾶ καὶ πόθω καὶ φόβω· ἀσπα | σώμεθα πίστει· καὶ δοξάσωμεν τὸν μόνον· | ποιητὴν κ(αὶ) δεσπότην:·

1ra (Vespers, September 15), the column starts with: τὴν δόξαν καταλείψας, καὶ πα | τρικὴν ἀθεΐαν βδελυξάμενος [...] and ends with: ἐν σταδίῳ κηρύξας Χριστὸν τὸν Θεὸν

1rb (Matins, September 15), the column starts with: [ἀνα]τολὴν κ(αὶ) ἥλιον [καὶ] φῶς, μυστικῶς σε καλούμ[ενον,] ὑπερφυῶς ἐξήστραψε, δι | πλοῦν τῇ φύσει τὸν φιλάν(θρωπ)ον [...] and ends with: Μαρία τὸ καθαρόν, τῆς παρθενίας καὶ | σεπτὸν σκήνωμα providing also the following text variation (diplomatically transcribed):

(at this point, there is some of partially illegible text, probably in different ink, and then the following text)

    • Remarks

Part of the fragmentary Menaion is probably written in different ink, which due to wear and tear is quite erased

Host Volume

Title Theological texts in one volume
Date of Origin/Publication ‚ςωκβ΄ [1314]
Place of Origin/Publication Monastery Xiropotamou, Mount Athos
Shelfmark Cod. 34 (Lampros 4154, Monastery 273)
Remarks
  • The ff. 2-5 are from paper, dense watery lines, having a unknown scissors watermark. The paper leaves were added probably in a later date and they are also written by a latter hand.
Thus, we assume that the fragmentary leaf was added to the Cod. 34 at the same time with the paper ones 2-5.
  • The boards of the codex are lined with black leather in the Byzantine fashion. They are  decorated with rectangles in each other.
