Remaining fragments were part of the same leaf. The extant fragments do not fit together, however, as a small strip of parchment between the fragments is missing.

Book Decoration and Musical Notation

Description

Large ornamental Romanesque penwork initial, in red, blue and green ink (fol. 51v); smaller green initial with red penwork (fol. 51r). Plain initials and versals, in red, blue and green ink; red rubrication; red colour stroking.

    Provenance

    The fragments come from the archives of Ename Abbey kept at the State Archives at Ghent. In 1919 they were transferred to the Ghent University Library as part of an exchange between the State Archives and the University Library.

    Remarks

    The fragments were probably reused in the binding of an archival document but the host volume can no longer be identified.
