General Information
A Northern European proto-Gothic script, with features of the developing Gothic textualis, written by a single hand.
Original Condition
The text is written above the top line indicating a likely date of before c. 1240.
On dating, see also ampersands, traling Ss, and ae-dipthong.
Current Condition
Although the two leaves now function as flyleaves, hooked around the first and last quires of the host volume, the discolouration on the recto of the front leaf and verso of the rear leaf suggest they once functioned as pastedowns.
-
There is light staining and loss of ink, particularly on the sides of the leaves which were once glued down to the wooden boards.
Book Decoration and Musical Notation
One-line red penwork initials in the margin to the left of the text block marking new Psalm verses.
