Gregory the Great, Dialogorum libri iv
F-8xdp
General Information
Copied by a single hand in an early form of Gothic textuallis libraria with a rather heavy appearance due to the thick upper sections of minims. This is particularly visible in forms such as i, m or n. Other letterforms with “doubled/notched” ascenders include straight d, f and s. With regards to individual letterforms, a has a large bowl but its upper section remains open, g has a short, closed round tail; the left leg in x reaches below the previous letter.
Both Tironian nota and ampersand are used, although the former is overwhelmingly favoured. Moreover, it has an almost vertical approach stroke, and its shaft is regularly crossed. Biting seen in pp and bb, and 2-shaped r is consistently used after o. Capitals have some doubled lines (C, P, Q, T). Rubrics and initials in red, although the former have almost completely faded away. Some capitals in the text also show traces of red fill-in. Evidence of later corrections in a lighter brown ink.

Host Volume
These two leaves formed a bifolium used as wrapper of this volume, which now remains unbound. When they were removed, they were simply trimmed away so that part of the gutter of the original bifolium remains attached to the back of the host volume.
