General Remarks
The Russian manuscript is written in black Cyrillic characters with headings and initial letters in red. These large initial letters, with Byzantine ornamentation, add a free note to the page. The paper does not seem as fine as that of other eastern countries. Some pages of the book from which this leaf is derived, have illustrations of the stories. The formal, stage-like settings, with dramatic action indicated, are painted in brilliant and striking colors.
