General Remarks

From "Original leaves from famous Bibles," portfolio containing 60 detached leaves from manuscript and printed Bibles compiled by Otto F. Ege and distributed by Philip C. Duschnes. Leaf captioned by Ege: "Leaf from a Paris manuscript Bible circa 1310 A.D." Manuscript is HL 61 in Scott Gwara's Otto Ege's Manuscripts (2013). Gwara speculates that the original manuscript may be no. 4 in the library of Otto F. Ege in Seymour de Ricci's Census of Medieval and Renaissance Manuscripts in the United States and Canada (1935); see volume 2, page 1937. Ege no. 4 is described as a Bible on vellum, containing Isaiah to Apocalypse only, obtained by Ege from E. Dawson, Los Angeles, in 1932.

Description

Headings and inset chapter number in alternating red and blue letters with purple pen line flourishes; inset 2-line initial on recto, blue with red pen line flourishes; red washes for the initials of verses.
