Host Volume

Title Register of the assizes of beer in the city of Antwerp, for May - August 1561
Date of Origin/Publication 12 May - 31 August 1561
Place of Origin/Publication Antwerp
Shelfmark Antwerpen, FelixArchief, T # 1441 ('1561-1')
Persons Johannes Maechs (supervisor of the beer assizes at Antwerp, scribe/keep of host volume)
Remarks

Both leaves were used as pastedowns in a register of the assizes of beer in the city of Antwerp kept between 12 May 1561 and 31 July of the same year ('Assijs boeck vande binnen bier assijse beginnende den xijte dach meije anno xvc lxj eindende den leesten dach Julius daer nae volgende'). This particular register was kept by controller Johannes Maechs.

Fol. [2]v contains the inscription 'Joes Maechs conterolleur' thrice. This refers to Johannes Maechs, the receiver of the Antwerp beer assizes. Maechs wrote his name on several of the fragments that are now part of the FelixArchief collection.

A modern paper slip with the note '1561-1' is attached to the leaves with a string, referring to this origin.
