Several of the leaves contain later-added annotations, both on the contents of the respective host volumes the fragments were used in, as well as the content of the leaves themselves (which were added in the 20th century).

A fragment from a different leaf was added to fol. [6] with a pin.

Cadel with black ornamental (and sometimes figurative) penwork on most top lines.

Plain initials, alternately in red and blue ink. Red rubrication, red colour stroking.

History

Remarks

Original manuscript consisted of circa 310 leaves, which were divided in four books.

The manuscript was possibly cut into fragments around ca. 1650. Most of the fragments were rediscovered between 1862 and 1905; one fragment was discovered in 1983.

Fragments were all used as covers of different registers kept by water boards, polders, lordships and parishes in the Brugse Vrije in the second half of the 17th century, according to later-added annotations: 'Groote hoofdijnghe vande geheele proch[ie] van Slijpe in Camerlijnghe ambt [...] anno 1680', fol. [1]/xix; 'Belegherthede vande Jurisdictie ende paelen der heerlichede [...] binnen der stede van Brugghe 1676', fol. [2]; 'Ommelooper vander goede[...] de anno 1659' and 'Beterdijnghe der prochie van Lissewege de anno 1694', both fol. [3]; 'La Rue als Collecteur vande naerscreuen prochie / Rollen Canonyck landen de anno 1683', fol. [4]; 'geheele parochie van Slijpe', fol. [6]; 'anno 1699 ad 1700', fol. [7]; 'Ommeloopere vande Coopmans poldere', fol. [8]

Fragments from the same manuscript (see above) were also used in archival documents around the Brugse Vrije, but were transferred to different libraries and archives upon their respective discoveries.
