    History

    Provenance

The fragment probably comes from a church or ecclesiastical institution in Ghent. By the 17th century it had been recycled as the cover for an archival document. That document probably ended up in the Ghent State Archives (stamp fol. [1]r), whence it was transferred to Ghent University Library during the early 20th century as part of an exchange.

    Remarks

The fragment was clearly recycled to serve as a cover for an archival document, probably relating to the aldermen of the 'Gedele' in Ghent. Fol. [2]v-[1]r contain seventeenth-century annotations in the margin, in Dutch and French: 'Amman van schepenen van ghedeele, nostre seigneur (....)' and 'A dame a vostre bonne grace aultant humblement qu[...]'. There is a further annotation in the margin of fol. [1]v-[2]r: 'Den suis (?) naer den XI Robbaert ende Zann(....)'.
