General Remarks
This Christian hymn book contains the Songs of Solomon and Prayers to the Virgin. The Ethiopic script is a syllabic script written in black square letters with red headings and line endings. Some pages have primitive chapter heads. This page is written from left to right while originally, Ethiopic was written right to left. This is one of the southern groups of Semitic languages which now survives only as a language of the church.
