General Information
Current Condition
The four tabs that are visible due to the detachment of the back endpaper each contain writing that in several cases has bled to the facing pieces of paper. The leather covering the front board is completely loose and it is possible to see the tabs against the spine. While several of the tabs are loose, they are all badly deteriorated from the glue.
Host Volume
First volume of the new edition of Pufendorff's work.
Smooth, camel colored leather binding stamped with a gilt armorial of a double-headed bird with a broad shoulder area making room for a large crown. The center of the bird is blank to make space for two stars over a roaring lion. At the bottom of the birds is a face. The armorial is encircled by a "w" border. On the spine in four of the compartments, the roaring lion with two stars are repeated in a scarab with additional gilt decorations around the center feature. The bottom of the spine has a three-deep scrollwork while small notches have been pressed into the raised bands.
As the leather for the covers have shrunk and come loose, there is gilt decoration in places that would have lined up with the edges of the boards when new.
The endpapers, a marbled comb pattern in red, white, blue, yellow, and green, are attached, almost fully in the front, but completely detached from the board in the back.
