Reconstruction Summary

One bifolium dating to the 13th century (2nd half), in an English cursive book-hand, consisting of the outer leaves of the first quire of an otherwise unattested treatise on ‘physic’ (theoretical medicine) that draws on 12th-century theology and medical theory, including the Practica chirurgica of Roger Frugard. It was originally positioned, in the codex discissus, at the head of a set of medical treatises, mostly taken from the Ars medicina. It is preserved alongside a leaf from an Office lectionary of French origin (Fragm. II, datable c. 1300), and together with fourteen sewing guards which are cuttings from leaves of a 13th-century English school or university manuscript.
